Superb silver decadrachm. Denys I (406-367 BC), by Euainetos, ca. 400 BC.
Obv. Racing quadriga driven left by charioteer; in field above, Nike flying right to crown him. In exergue, military trophy taken from the Athenians, ΑΘΛΑ below.
Rev. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ. Head of Arethusa left, wearing triple pendant earring, beaded necklace and ears of wheat in her hair. Four dolphins swimming around, EY-AINE below, signature of the engraver Euainetos.
Gallatin C XI/R. VII. Same obverse die as BnF collection, Luynes 1249 and same reverse die as lot 616 from Pozzi collection, auction Naville I, 14 March 1921.

In 1930, Galatin lists no specimen combining our obverse and reverse dies. He lists nine specimens struck with obverse R.VII and 19 with reverse C.XI, each one combined with two opposite dies.
